Import Progress and Cancellation

How the import progress states work, how cancellation happens, and how to read the completed import summary.

Work Planner TeamApril 12, 2026

Once an import starts, the upload screen becomes a progress screen. Work Planner polls the job in the background and keeps updating the page with the current status, the progress percentage, and the final summary.

The Main Import States

  • Uploading: the file is still being sent to Work Planner.
  • Processing: the import job is unpacking the file and creating or matching records. The page shows a progress message and percentage so you can see it moving forward.
  • Completed: the import finished and the page switches to the success summary.
  • Error: the import failed and the page shows the failure message instead of the summary.

How Cancellation Works

During upload or processing, the uploaded file line can be removed from the upload area. That remove action is what cancels the running import. Work Planner then marks the import as cancelled and resets the screen so you can try again with a new file if needed.

Before the import begins, the footer shows a normal Cancel button back to Settings. After the import fails, the page changes that action to Back to Settings plus a Try Again button.

How To Read The Completed Summary

  • Files Processed: confirms how many source files were handled.
  • Imported badges: show how many records were created for each area, such as services, rounds, payment methods, expense categories, customer sources, customers, jobs, notes, worksheets, invoices, and transactions.
  • Skipped badges: show how many records were left alone because they already existed.
  • Unallocated warning: appears when some customer matching did not line up cleanly and transactions had to be imported as unallocated.
  • Files Found: lists the source files the importer detected inside the upload.

What To Do After Completion

A completed import does not mean every number should be trusted blindly. It is worth reviewing the summary, especially any skipped counts and any unallocated customer warning, before you move on. Once you are happy, use Back to Settings and start checking the imported customers, jobs, invoices, or transactions in their normal screens.
