Blog Media
How the blog media library works, including image uploads, alt text, captions, and reuse inside blog posts.
Open the Media tab inside the website blog area to manage images used by blog posts. This library is separate from the main Website Media library, so it is worth keeping the blog images tidy here instead of mixing them into page and gallery media.
What You Can Do Here
- Upload image: adds a new image to the blog media library.
- Edit image details: update the alt text and caption on a saved image.
- Delete image: remove an image from the blog media library.
Fields On A Blog Media Image
- Alt text: the text description used for accessibility and as a fallback label when an image cannot be seen. When the image is a post’s featured image, this is the description used for it on the post and on archive cards.
- Caption: optional notes about the image, which help you find it when searching in the design editor. A caption shown under an image in a post is typed on that image’s block instead.
Why These Details Matter
The Featured image list on a post’s settings screen shows each image’s file name with its alt text, and the Media library popup in the design editor lets you search by name, alt text, or caption, so tidy details make the right image easy to find. Images uploaded from the design editor land here too, without alt text or a caption, so it is worth adding them afterwards. When you use an image in a post’s body, type its alternative text and caption on the image block itself, because the details saved here aren’t copied onto the post.
