Creating a Service

How to create a service, what each field means, and how website visibility affects public-facing service selection.

Work Planner Team12 April 2026

From Settings > Services, click New Service when you need a service that does not already exist in job, quote, or website selectors. If you can work across more than one business, the popup opens on a Business tab first and then moves into Service Information.

Service Information

  • Name: The service label your team picks later in jobs and quotes. Keep it short and recognisable.
  • Color: Required. This stores the service's hex colour for visual recognition.
  • Show on website: Turn this on when the service should appear on the public request-a-quote side of your website.
  • Public service description: Customer-facing wording for the website. Use it when website visitors need more context before choosing the service.

What the Validation Checks

  • Name: Required and limited to 255 characters.
  • Color: Required and must be a full hex colour such as #3B82F6.
  • Public description: Optional, but limited to 2000 characters.

What Changes After Save

Once saved, the new service becomes available in job and quote flows and anywhere else Work Planner asks the user to choose a service. If website visibility is enabled, the service can also be shown on the public request side.
