Direct Debit Sign-ups From Your Website

Let customers set up a Direct Debit from your website with your GoCardless sign-up link, and how Work Planner links each one to the right customer.

Customers can set up a Direct Debit from your own website, or from a link in your emails, using the sign-up link from your GoCardless dashboard. Once GoCardless is connected, Work Planner hears about each new Direct Debit straight away and links it to the right customer, so you can collect payments from them without matching anyone by hand.

  • Your GoCardless sign-up link: the link in your GoCardless dashboard that anyone can use to set up a Direct Debit with your business, as often as you like. Put this one on your website.
  • Not a Work Planner Direct Debit link: the link Work Planner sends a customer, ending flow?id=BRF and some letters and numbers, is made for that one customer and only works once. Don't put it on your website.

How A Sign-up Is Matched To A Customer

  • Email address and postcode: when both match one customer, who doesn't already have a Direct Debit, it's linked to them straight away and you're told they set one up.
  • Never on the email address alone: a wrong match would collect payments from the wrong person's bank account, so anything less certain waits for you.
  • When it waits: more than one customer has the email address and postcode, a customer has the email address with a different postcode, or the customer who matches already has a Direct Debit.
  • When nobody matches: it waits too, unless you switch on Create a customer when nobody matches on the GoCardless screen. Then Work Planner makes a new customer from the name, email address, phone number and address they gave GoCardless. If several of your businesses share one GoCardless account, it waits in each of them instead, as it isn't clear which business they're a customer of.
  • Anyone who signed up before: when you connect GoCardless, everyone who has already set up a Direct Debit with your account is matched in the same way, without telling you about each one. Work Planner also checks each night for any new sign-up it wasn't told about.

Being Told About Sign-ups

You get a notification, and a line in the bell, when a sign-up is linked to a customer, saying if they were added as a new customer, and when one waits for you to choose who it's for. That one has a Choose customer button that opens the list, and it leaves the bell once you've dealt with it. Turn them off with Direct Debit sign-ups from your website in your notification settings.

Unmatched Direct Debits

The GoCardless screen, in Settings > Payment Providers > GoCardless, says how many Direct Debits are waiting for you under Unmatched Direct Debits. Review Direct Debits opens them in a popup, with who signed up, their email address, address and postcode, and why they weren't matched.

  • Link to customer: choose the customer it's for. If they already have a Direct Debit, you're asked whether to replace it, and their old one waits in the list instead.
  • Create customer: makes a new customer from what they gave GoCardless, with their Direct Debit.
  • Dismiss: takes it off the list, and it isn't matched again. The Direct Debit stays set up in GoCardless.
  • Cancelled ones: a Direct Debit that's cancelled, fails or expires leaves the list by itself.
  • Unlinked from a customer: one you unlink or replace on a customer's screen waits here too, so it can be linked to the right customer. You can also link a waiting one from the customer's screen with Link existing Direct Debit.
