Editing a Payment Method
How to update a payment method safely and what changing the name, fee, or website settings affects later in Work Planner.
Open a payment method and choose Edit when the existing method is still the right one, but the name, fees, colour, or website settings need updating. The edit popup takes you straight back to Payment Method Information because the business context is already fixed.
Fields You Can Change
- Name: Updates the label staff see in selectors. Use this when the method has been renamed or when the old label was unclear.
- Color: Updates the saved hex colour shown with the method in list and detail views.
- Flat Fee and Percentage Fee: Change these when your payment processor charges have changed. Work Planner uses the current values for future payment-fee calculations.
- Show on website: Switch this on or off when the method should appear or disappear from the customer-facing website payment options.
- Public payment description: Update this when the website wording needs to be clearer or more current.
What the Change Affects
- Future selections: Staff see the updated name and colour the next time they open payment selectors.
- Future fee handling: Fee changes affect later payment recording. They do not go back and rewrite fee entries that were already posted before the edit.
- Website availability: Website visibility changes affect whether the method is shown on the public payment side going forward.
Checks Before Save
The same validation applies as on create. Name and colour are required, fees cannot be negative, percentage fee cannot exceed 100, and the public description stays optional.
