Preview & Test Popup
How to preview a document template with one of your real records or example details, download it as a PDF, and email yourself a test.
Preview & test is in the top bar of the drag and drop editor, the Simple editor and the HTML editor. It shows the design exactly as it is in the editor, unsaved changes included, filled in the way it will be for real. Use it to check a design before you save it.
Choosing What to Preview With
Preview with at the top decides whose details fill the design in. Click it, or start typing to search.
- Your latest: The default. It uses your most recent invoice, quote, worksheet, customer or job, whichever the template is for. If you don’t have one yet, it uses example details.
- Example details: Made-up details, such as Sample Customer, so you can check the layout without anyone’s real information.
- A record of your own: Your 20 most recent records are listed, and typing narrows them down. Invoices are found by reference or customer, quotes by reference, name or address, worksheets by name, customers by name, reference, address or postcode, and jobs by reference, address or customer.
Your own business details, such as your name, address and logo, are always filled in. A price rise letter previewed with a job that has no price rise yet shows example figures.
Half and quarter page templates have One copy and Whole sheet, to see how the copies sit on the printed sheet.
Makes the PDF as it would print, named after the template with -test on the end. Half and quarter page designs come out as copies on the sheet. This is the most reliable way to check spacing and page breaks, because it uses the same printing as real documents.
Send a Test
- Who it goes to: Only you. The PDF is emailed to the address you sign in with, never to a customer, and a message confirms the address it went to.
- What arrives: An email titled Test: and the template’s name, with the same PDF as Download PDF attached.
- How often: Up to six tests a minute. After that, wait a moment before sending another.
