Changelog Badge

How the sparkles changelog badge works, what the unread count means, and what happens when you open updates from the header.

Work Planner TeamApril 13, 2026

The sparkles icon in the app header is your changelog badge. Use it when you want to check product updates without leaving the page you are already on.

What The Badge Tells You

  • Unread count: the number on the badge is the number of changelog entries you have not cleared yet.
  • No count: if there is no number showing, Work Planner does not currently think you have unread updates.
  • 99+ cap: once the unread total grows beyond 99, the badge shows 99+ instead of trying to fit the full number into the circle.

What Happens When You Click It

Clicking the badge opens a changelog popup straight from the header. The popup loads the release list the first time you open it, then keeps that list in memory so checking it again during the same session is quicker.

  • Version and release date: every entry shows both.
  • Major badge: highlights larger releases.
  • New badge: appears on entries that are still unread.
  • Mark as read: this popup lets you clear one entry at a time instead of clearing the whole batch.

How This Differs From The What's New Popup

The badge popup is the manual version. You open it when you choose to, and you can mark single entries as read from inside the list. The What's New popup is the automatic reminder and is better for clearing a whole set of unread entries quickly.

When To Use The Badge

  • Quick check between jobs: useful if you notice the count and want to see whether anything affects the area you are working in.
  • Clear one release only: useful when you want to leave later updates unread until you have more time.
  • Stay on your current screen: useful when opening the full changelog page would interrupt what you are doing.
